EDS Corp. will take on additional Medicare claims processing work under a new $33 million task order for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' Enterprise Data Center.

Under the five-year award, EDS will process Medicare parts A and B claims for the Medicare Administrative Contractor Jurisdiction 6, which includes Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. EDS will also process Medicare claims of the Railroad Retirement Board for all 50 states. Together, they account for more than 128 million claims annually.

EDS processes about 350 million Medicare fee-for-service claims each year.

EDS is one of three companies that competed for task orders under the 10-year, $1.9 billion Enterprise Data Center contract to consolidate data center operations, which was awarded in March 2006.

That work, which is performed at more than 15 facilities, eventually will be consolidated into four data centers, saving CMS hundreds of millions of dollars over the 10-year contract period, EDS said.

EDS of Plano, Texas, ranks No. 10 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
