Sybase Inc. has purchased Mobile 365, a mobile messaging and content-delivery company, for $425 million in an all-cash transaction.

The acquisition brings Sybase wireless carrier and content provider channels that it did not have, Sybase officials said. In particular, the acquisition gives Sybase a carrier channel with connections to about 700 operators, as well as data analytics capabilities to meet customer demand for more robust analytics of wireless data traffic.

Following the transaction, Mobile 365 will operate as Sybase Mobile 365, a wholly owned subsidiary. Marty Beard, Sybase's senior vice president of corporate development and marketing, will lead the unit.

Sybase of Dublin, Calif., specializes in global enterprise software for managing and mobilizing information. Its products and services are used in both the commercial and government sectors.
