Motorola wins $329 million Virginia radio deal
Virginia has awarded a five-year, $329 million contract to Motorola Inc. to provide a statewide radio system to support communications among 20 agencies.
Virginia has awarded a five-year, $329 million contract to Motorola Inc. to provide a statewide radio system to support communications among 20 agencies.
Motorola of Schaumberg, Ill., will install about 130 land mobile radio and microwave sites, distribute subscriber equipment and provide necessary training.
The first phase of the project will be working in central Virginia by December 2005. The project is expected to be complete by October 2009.
The state announced the deal today.
The Statewide Agencies Radio System will provide a foundation for shared, statewide public safety radio system. It will replace the existing analog communications system used by State Police and other agencies with a VHF digital, high-band, trunked system that integrates voice and data.
