Government Acquisitions wins USDA order

Federal reseller Government Acquisitions Inc., Washington, has won a contract worth about $24 million to provide computers from Gateway Inc., Poway, Calif., to the Agriculture Department, Gateway announced Tuesday.

For this contract, Government Acquisitions will provide more than 18,000 Gateway E-Series personal computers and 4,800 Gateway 450 notebook computers to offices across the agency. The company will also deliver the computers and provide initial warranty support for the first 30 days.

Gateway's hardware meets the standards set by the Agriculture for its common computing environment, an initiative to standardize hardware purchases in order to cut costs on procurement, maintenance and installation.

"We chose Gateway because the company offered the best value over the proposals we received," said Scott Snover, who is the common computing environment project manager for the Agriculture.

Founded in 1989, Government Acquisitions focuses on providing customized IT hardware to federal agencies.
