TRW Inc. plans to acquire Network Six Inc. for $5.3 million as part of a strategy to expand its human services expertise in the state and local government market.

If the shareholders of Network Six of Warwick, R.I., approve the cash deal, it would close later this year, said TRW of Cleveland.

The acquisition would help expand TRW's human services business in the New England area, company officials said. Network Six manages the child welfare system for Maine and temporary assistance for needy families, child support, child care and the child welfare system for Rhode Island.

TRW provides information technology systems for human services in 23 states. The company also provides health care information systems to state and local governments and builds integrated public safety communication and transportation centers for police, fire, medical dispatch and emergency services.

Network Six has about 100 employees and had sales of $11 million in fiscal 2000.
