Accenture, election.com to Provide Election Solutions

Accenture Inc. of Chicago, and election.com Inc., of Garden City, N.Y., have formed an alliance to deliver comprehensive election solutions to governments at home and abroad.


As part of the arrangement, Accenture has agreed to take an equity stake in election.com, according to a Feb. 5 announcement from the companies. The amount of the equity stake was not disclosed.


Under the agreement, the companies are planning to develop election software and offer technology to help governments gain efficiencies in election administration.


Accenture will contribute its experience with business process engineering, customer relationship management, integration and change management services, while election.com will offer its experience with voter registration and database management, poll site and remote electronic voting, security solutions, tabulation and demographic reporting.


Last week, EDS Corp. of Plano, Texas, and Identix Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif. demonstrated a voting solution on Capitol Hill that would enable U.S. military personnel stationed overseas to vote online.


The EDS-Identix solution is based on fingerprint identification technology provided by Identix and smart card technology provided by EDS.

The fingerprints provide a digital signature that is applied to a smart card, which military personnel can use to vote online via a military or commercial intranet, the companies said.
