ACS Buys Key Business Unit from Tyler Technologies

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. of Dallas has acquired Business Resource Corp., a subsidiary of Tyler Technologies Inc., also of Dallas, for $71 million in cash, ACS announced today.

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. of Dallas has acquired Business Resource Corp., a subsidiary of Tyler Technologies Inc., also of Dallas, for $71 million in cash, ACS announced today.BRC provides records management, document workflow, imaging systems and services to state and local governments and real estate title services to title companies.The acquisition of BRC will augment ACS' existing state and local land records business, said company officials."This acquisition expands our geographic footprint in land records and deepens our vertical market expertise in this important business outsourcing market," said Jeff Rich, ACS' president and executive officer. BRC has two operating subsidiaries: Government Records Services and Title Records Corp.Government Records Services provides imaging, indexing and retrieval of records filed with county clerk offices in more than two-thirds of the counties in Texas. The subsidiary also develops and implements document workflow systems in county and state offices, such as the Internet-based filings and database systems that are currently being implemented for the Illinois Secretary of State. Title Records Corp. is the exclusive provider of title services to title companies in several counties in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It provides title companies with access to its indexed database and to related imaged documents that allow title companies to render an opinion as to the land title being insured. BRC had annual revenue of about $27 million for the 12 months that ended Sept. 30, which represented about 21 percent of Tyler's $134 million in annual revenue, said company officials at Tyler Technologies.ACS has more than 20,000 employees and had sales of $1.9 billion in 2000, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
