Lockheed Martin Wins $378 Million Defense Network Contract

Lockheed Martin Corp. won a $378 million, 10-year task order to upgrade and manage the Defense Department's Network Infrastructure Services Agency at the Pentagon, the company announced Dec. 11.

The network supports 25,000 computers users throughout the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff and the military departments.

Lockheed Martin of Bethesda, Md., will provide program and network management, transition, quality assurance planning, security operations, help-desk support and other process, technical architecture and engineering management services, said the company.

The upgrade of the Pentagon's network infrastructure represents a critical part of a multiyear, multibillion dollar renovation under way at the Pentagon, company officials said. Lockheed Martin will manage the Pentagon's backbone communications infrastructure throughout the modernization period.

The task order was made under the General Services Administration's Millennia contract. Millennia is a $25 billion contract awarded to 12 companies to provide a broad range of IT services to any government agency.

Lockheed Martin's core businesses are systems integration, space, aeronautics and technology services. In 1999, Lockheed Martin had 147,000 employees and $25.5 billion in sales, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
