Purdy to Lead AMS for Now

OCT. 27 ? American Management Systems Inc. announced Oct. 26 that William Purdy, an executive vice president at the Fairfax, Va., company, would serve as interim president and chief executive officer.
Purdy replaces AMS Chairman and CEO Paul Brands, who in September announced his intention to retire. Meanwhile, AMS is conducting a search to permanently replace Brands, who will continue serving as chairman until he retires in January 2001.
Purdy's presence at the helm will ensure AMS has a successful transition to new corporate leadership in 2001, said Brands.
As an executive vice president at AMS, Purdy oversaw federal defense contracts, financial services and employee training.
"Bill's experience in e-government and e-business programs and technologies, coupled with his leadership skills, will ensure that key business initiatives already under way will continue to move forward and be successful," said Daniel Altobello, a member of AMS' board of directors.
Purdy holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts and a master's degree in business administration from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
AMS had sales of more than $1.24 billion in 1999. The company has more than 9,000 employees in 59 offices worldwide.
