SEPT. 8 ? ValiCert Inc., a software manufacturer specializing in secure infrastructure solutions for e-transactions, announced Sept. 7 that Unisys Corp. has joined the ValiCert Affiliate Network.

As a network member, Unisys of Blue Bell, Pa., will be able to offer its customers protection for all phases of an e-transaction life cycle by using ValiCert's Validation Authority, Secure Transport and Digital Receipt products, which authorize, conduct and record e-transactions.

When a company belonging to the network inserts a ValiCert product into its customized solution for a government, financial or commercial customer, ValiCert then receives a percentage of the financial transactions that are made through that solution, said Rich Black, a spokesperson for the Mountain View, Calif.-based company. About 40 companies belong to ValiCert's Affiliate Network, he said.

"Through its participation in the ValiCert Affiliate Network, Unisys will be able to offer enterprises the solutions they need to protect the integrity and confidentiality of communications and transactions on the Internet, a critical component to ensuring successful e-business," said Sathvik Krishnamurthy, ValiCert's vice president of marketing and business development.

"Through ValiCert-enabled technology, Unisys is able to help organizations create a trusted community in the online business world, which will allow our clients to leverage new e-business opportunities that streamline and reduce the costs of existing paper-intensive operations," said Sunil Misra, managing principal, Unisys Worldwide eBusiness Security and Privacy Practice.

In 1999, ValiCert had sales totaling $1.6 million and 136 employees. Unisys had sales of more than $7.5 billion and about 35,800 employees, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
