Gunnison builds leadership team with new hire

Find opportunities — and win them.

Gunnison has hired another senior executive with experience in making the transition from small business to full-and-open competition.

Gunnison Consulting Group has hired Meaghan Bouchoux Carter as senior vice president of the company’s health and civil division.

Carter is the second senior leadership hire the emerging mid-tier firm has done this year. In February, they hired Brian Westhoff as chief growth officer.

Gunnison has been targeting executives with experience with larger businesses or in navigating the transition from small business set-aside work to full and open. Or experience doing both.

Carter has worked at both Blue Canopy, a middle tier firm acquired by Jacobs; and ActioNet, a former 8(a) firm that is now in the middle tier.

Westhoff joined Gunnison after helping take Aquilent from $25 million to $125 million in annual revenue before it was acquired by Booz Allen Hamilton.

Gunnison CEO Gil Dussek joined the company in late 2019 after nearly 15 years at General Dynamics IT.

During 2020, Gunnison brought on board Dave Uehlinger as chief financial officer. He had previously been CFO at Eagle Ray, which was acquired by Preferred Systems Solutions.

Gunnison also added Sean Fromm as senior vice president of its national security division when Gunnison acquired the company he co-founded -- Global Solutions & Services Framework or G2SF. Though smaller than Gunnison, all of G2SF’s work was full-and-open.

The strategy is paying off for the company as its percentage of small business set-aside work has shrunk from 95 percent of its revenue to 25 percent, Dussek told me.

With Carter’s hire, Gunnison is adding an executive with expertise in agile delivery, IT modernization and digital transformation. Carter will be responsible for health care customers and other civilian agencies.

She is also charged with diversifying customer sets and bringing new capabilities to market.
