Oracle public sector chief Mark Johnson dies

Mark Johnson, senior vice president for Oracle's public sector business, has died.

Johnson was a three-decade veteran of the company, having joined in 1989. A cause of death was not available.

Homeland Security Today first reported Johnson’s death on Wednesday.

Oracle released a statement expressing condolences to Johnson’s family and co-workers.

“It is with great sadness that we confirm Mark Johnson passed away. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and his Oracle colleagues. In his 30 years at Oracle, Mark was an inspiring leader who made a significant and lasting contribution to our customers and the industry,” the company said.

As the leader of Oracle's public sector arm, Johnson oversaw sales and marketing efforts in the federal, state and local government markets.

Over the years at Oracle, he has held series of positions as his career grew and advanced. He led civilian sales and then all of federal sales before moving into the senor vice resident role.

He also led partner strategy efforts for the public sector business.

According to his official Oracle biography, he worked closely with customer advisory boards as well as Oracle's development organization.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
