Our next Washington Technology Power Breakfast brings in some of the market's leading companies to share how they are managing the challenges around workforce issues in the government market.
There is no shortage of examples of how tight the job market is today. That was well before Amazon held a job fair with the goal of hiring 30,000 people.
Like the broader tech industry, government contractors are not immune to the pressures of a competitive workforce. That competition isn’t just about hiring people. It includes planning for the future, anticipating needs and retaining people once they are in place.
We’ll take a deep dive into those issues at our Sept. 27 Washington Technology Power Breakfast focused on workforce strategies.
We have three panels focused on diversity, the workforce of the future and the practice of hiring veterans. Some of the market's largest companies will be represented including Leidos, SAIC, CACI International, LMI and Perspecta. Also coming are some emerging mid-tier firms such as Incadence, Dovel Technologies and Brillient Corp.
Companies face a two-pronged challenge today. They have to make sure they have the people on board to meet today’s needs, but also must be prepared for the changes in technology and customer needs. Our workforce of the future will look at these challenges and how it impacts hiring, training and retention.
The panel on diversity will look at how this issue has grown in recent years. It’s not just about political correctness or doing the right thing, but more businesses are recognizing how diversity in the workforce translates into better top- and bottom-line results.
Our veteran panel is going to look at how companies are tapping this pool of people as a source of new hires, plus the strengths and other values they can bring to a company.
We’ll also dive into some of the data and demographics around the workforce with a presentation by representatives of a new group in the greater Washington, D.C. area, where 10 local government organizations have joined together to form the Northern Virginia Economic Development Alliance. They will talk about how the workforce is a critical component of development.
