Peraton caps successful run with $1.8B NASA win

Peraton has been on a run lately with a major acquisition, a successful protest and now a $1.8 billion recompete to support NASA networks needed for new space missions.
This has been a big couple week for the folks over at Peraton.
On Monday, the company announced that it is acquiring Solers Inc., in a move that brings more space support services with several intelligence agencies.
Last week, the company learned it had prevailed in a protest of $655 million Air Force contract for space support services.
And then on Tuesday, the company won the recompete of one of its top five contacts, a five-year, $1.8 billion NASA contract to support near-earth mission services, known as Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution, aka SENSE.
The company will continue to perform systems architecture and engineering, development, integration, testing, operations, maintenance and sustainment services for ground systems and facilities.
The contract was originally won by ITT Corp. in 2008. ITT spun out that part of its business in 2011 to form Excelis. Harris Corp. acquired Excelis in 2015 for $4.75 billion. Then in 2018, Harris spun out its IT business to form Peraton, and parts of the Excelis business came with that spin out.
The original contract was worth just more than $1.2 billion but the scope of work for the new contract was expanded to support the evolution of networks for future space missions.
The systems Peraton will be supporting include NASA’s Space Network, Near Earth Network, Satellite Laser Ranging Network, Very Long Baseline Interferometry Network, and Electronic Systems Test Laboratory.
The flight operations and sustaining services will support NASA’s tracking and data relay satellites. The systems architecture, engineering and development services will be used to evolve NASA’s networks to provide innovative space communications and navigation solutions for new science and exploration, NASA said in announcing the award to Harris.
Peraton’s work will also include electromagnetic spectrum management, communications link analyses, and networking loading assessments that are needed to integrate network services for new customer A
The work will take place at a variety of NASA facilities including Goddard Space Flight Center, Kennedy Space Center, White Sands Test Facility and Wallops Flight Facility.
Peraton is ranked No. 40 on Washington Technology's 2019 Top 100 list of the largest government contractors.
