Trump names new leader for OFPP

President Donald Trump nominated Michael Wooten, a senior acquisitions adviser at the Federal Student Loan office, to be the government's top acquisition policy officer.

If confirmed, Wooten would be the first permanent administrator of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy since Anne Rung, who resigned in September 2016 and took a senior public sector sales post at Amazon.

Currently, the OFPP director's office is occupied on an acting basis by Lesley Field.

Wooten also served as acting assistant secretary and deputy assistant secretary for career, technical and adult education. Before joining the Trump administration at the Department of Education, Wooten was deputy chief procurement officer for the District of Columbia. He also worked as a professor and administrator at Defense Acquisition University.

OFFP is part of the Office of Management and Budget. The OFPP administrator is charged with creating policy guidance and leadership for the federal government's 40,000 acquisition personnel and chairs the Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council, which guides the process of updating the federal government's acquisition rules.
