Air Force Academy plans for new data warehouse system

The U.S. Air Force Academy has developed plans with the Mitre Corp. to build a data warehouse model, and now the academy is looking for companies to support in setting up the system.

The academy’s “To Be” data warehouse would provide enterprise-wide reporting, enable self-service reporting capabilities, and gather quality and timely data for analytical purposes. The academy said, in a sources sought notice, that it wants the system for business intelligence to capture accurate and consistent reporting data while providing access to the data across the environment.

The current design is comprised of a logistical data warehouse model and considerations for developing the system.

The academy is required to provide reports on its effectiveness and key performance indicators. It must also analyze its business processes in educating and training future Air Force officers. The current data structure through which the academy develops the reports and performs analyses are slow and difficult, according to a sources sought notice.

In the new sources-sought notice, the academy is interested in hearing about industry best practices and solutions that meet the requirements and various ideas that may not be in the current design model. It also wants to know if aspects of the requirements are consistent with industry practices.

The academy released the notice June 13. Responses are due by June 30.
