ViaSat has been awarded a $13.7 million Defense Information Systems Agency contract to build additional ground transceivers for a situational awareness network of the U.S. Army.
First fielded in April 2012, Blue Force Tracking 2 offers soldiers position location information and command-and-control communications in combat via air and ground transceivers, satellite ground stations and network control centers.
BFT-2 terminals are located in ground vehicles and aircraft. The system also contains data link security and equipment for network monitoring and control.
This sole-source contract to ViaSat covers deliveries between September 2017 and April 2018.
