VA looking for cloud-hosted device management system

Veterans Affairs is developing a five-year contract for a cloud-based mobile device management system that will cover at least 45,000 devices.
Veterans Affairs is developing a new five-year contract for managing its mobile devices.
The agency wants a private cloud-based management system for all VA-issued mobile devices. The devices include iOS, Windows mobile and Android phones and tablets, according to a request for information published on FBO.gov this week.
The solution should include all hosting, software, hardware, operations and maintenance.
The winning contractor also will need to migrate device data from the current hosted environment at Terremark. That hosting arrangement ends on Aug. 1.
The hosting solution also will need to meet FISMA high, FedRAMP high requirements.
The mobile device management system will need to support at least 45,000 and up to 100,000 devices.
Because this is an RFI, VA is collecting information on what is possible, but it is clear that the agency wants a contractor-owned and managed system with the contractor being responsible for hardware, software, hosting, etc. VA describes it as a full turn-key solution.
The RFI includes several questions and elements that VA wants comments on including the timelines, level of effort, migration plans and even proposed teammates and subcontractors.
On the teammate front, VA also wants to know whether 50 percent of the amount paid by the government to the prime contractor will be paid to service-disabled, veteran-owned small businesses.
The RFI was released Jan. 10 and responses are due Jan. 20.
