Deadline nears for Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce Innovation Awards

The nomination period for the Greater Washington Innovation Awards ends this Friday, Feb. 3.

The nomination period for the Greater Washington Innovation Awards ends this Friday, Feb. 3.

Presented by the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the awards celebrate thought leadership, innovation and creativity of individuals and organizations in select industries in the Greater Washington metro area.

Here is the information on how to make a nomination.

To be considered for the awards, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Be headquartered in the Greater Washington area (south of Baltimore, North of Richmond, from the Chesapeake to the Shenandoah)
  • Have more than 50 percent of employees in the Greater Washington region
  • Have at least 100 or more employees in the Greater Washington region

The categories and requirements for this year’s awards are:

Tech Innovator of the Year
• Emerging Tech Innovator of the Year – company in business less than five years.
• Mature Tech Innovator of the Year – company in business greater than five years.

Presented to a technology company for an innovative internal or external product or process launched in 2016.

Public Service Innovator of the Year
Presented to a public service organization (including but not limited to local, state and federal government agencies and officials and educational systems or leaders) for an innovative internal or external product or process launched in 2016.

Professional Service Innovator of the Year
Presented to a  professional service organization (including but not limited to accounting, legal, banking, HR, real estate and development firms) for an innovative internal or external product or process launched in 2016. Special consideration will be given to applicants that demonstrate a high level of impact on the Greater Washington community.

Hospitality, Tourism & Entertainment Innovator of the Year
Presented to a hospitality organization (including but not limited to hotels, restaurants, entertainment and retail outlets, venues) for an innovative internal or external product or process launched in 2016.

Health & Life Sciences Innovator of the Year
Presented to a health care organization (including but not limited to health care providers, hospitals, life science organizations, pharmaceutical companies) for an innovative internal or external product or process launched in 2016.

Marketing & Advertising Innovator of the Year
Presented to a company (within any industry) for an innovative internal or external marketing or advertising campaign launched in 2016.

The Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce (formerly the Fairfax County chamber) said that special consideration will be given to applicants that demonstrate a high level of impact on the Greater Washington community.

In addition to these categories, NVCC will give the following honors to individuals:

  • Isaac Newton Lifetime Innovator Award
  • Emerging Innovator of the Year
