Progeny Systems Corp. has been awarded an $11.3 million option with the Navy for technology insertion and upgrades.

Under the contract, the company will provide active intercept and ranging, which the Defense Department said in a release is a commercial-off-the-shelf signal processing system that provides detection of active sonar pulses from other ships and submarines.

The system also detects active homing torpedoes.

Progeny Systems will also provide archival media center upgrades. The center allows the recording and storage of audio and environmental data without the need for traditional tape recording media, the Defense Department said.

Work will be performed in Manassas, Va., and is expected to be completed in September 2018.
