The Veterans Affairs Department is starting to see progress after switching to using the NIH Information Technology Acquisition and Assessment Center as a starting point for its cloud procurement, according to FCW.
"We are in the tail end of that acquisition cycle right now, so we are anticipating movement in that sometime in September," FCW quoted Thompson as saying.
The initial move to the cloud will focus on commodity IT including email and other applications to ensure a smooth transition to the department’s large-scale custom applications, FCW reported.
"Typically, when you talk to organizations about cloud, it's development only," Thompson told FCW. "We're looking all the way through the value chain – development, pre-production, production.”
