Mission Essential makes deal to build intelligence business

Mission Essential of Herndon, Va., has acquired Information Management Technology Corp. in a deal that adds more capabilities to its intelligence business.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed but the company is picking up business such as supporting the Integrated Broadcast Service, the Defense Department’s satellite communications network for transmitting tactical and strategic intelligence.

The network also distributes information on threat warnings and targeting data to U.S. and allied decision makers and operators, Mission Essential said in a press release.

IMT provides systems integration and software engineering services and specializes in supporting systems that push time-critical intelligence to warfighters.

The company was founded in 2006 by Rob Kelly, who will remain on board to run the business. It will be a standalone business known as IMT, a Mission Essential company.

“The acquisition of IMT is a key component of our long-term growth and diversification strategy,” said Mission Essential Chairman Greg Miller.

They made IMT an acquisition target “after thoroughly analyzing the marketplace,” he said.
