Navy floats need for innovation with new weather contract

The Navy is developing a new single-award contract to bring more innovative weather forecasting and modeling.
The Navy is looking round for more innovative weather forecasting and modeling and it is hoping to find a single contractor to do it.
In a sources sought notice, the Navy’s Fleet Logistics Center in Norfolk, Va., is casting about for information on improvements and support for the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, Stennis Space Center and Naval Information Forces.
The statement of work is called “Sustainment of Meteorology, Oceanographic and Geospatial Information and Services Programs, Systems and Information Systems. The solicitation number is N0018917Q9999.
The work will also support several subordinate commands such as the Naval Observatory and the Naval Oceanography Special Warfare Command.
The Navy wants support for analysis, sustainment, engineering and other services to enhance the software and capabilities of the current systems.
Some of the specific work includes:
- Architecture, systems engineering and integration support
- Software application maintenance, sustainment and engineering
- Data architecture, modeling and administration
- Web-based distribution of naval oceanography
The Navy is collecting information on the kind of services and solutions are available. It is also looking for technical suggestions from industry.
General Dynamics IT holds the incumbent contract. That contract number is N00104-12-D-Q178. That contract has been worth about $27.1 million, according to Deltek.
Responses to the RFI are due July 29.
