Lockheed wins logistics support for space-based infrared system
Lockheed Martin has received a $49 million contract modification to continue the logistics support work for a space-based infrared system.
Lockheed Martin Space Systems Co. has been awarded a $49 million modification to a February 2013 contract to provide logistics support for a missile warning system to the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center.
The Space-Based Infrared System Endurable Evolution provides warning for strategic missile launches and offers critical information on missile defense systems, according to Lockheed Martin’s website.
Work under the contract modification will be performed in Denver and Sunnyvale, Calif., and is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2019, the Defense Department said in a release.
Lockheed Martin previously received a $1 billion modification to this contract in June 2014 to complete the production of the system’s satellites and a $42 million modification in September 2014 to redesign elements of the software, according to releases from the Defense Department. The original contract was for $284 million.
