WT Industry Day puts focus on DHS

We have a top-notch lineup for our DHS Industry Day on April 28 with the CIO and chief procurement officer giving briefings on contracting trends and opportunities.

At our next Washington Technology Industry Day on April 28, we’re going to take a dive into the Homeland Security Department.

We focused on this agency at one of the events in 2015, and the response was so positive, and there is so much going on, that we had to do an encore.

Luke McCormack, DHS CIO, will kick things off after I give some brief opening remarks. McCormick has been CIO since December 2013 and has made IT modernization and improved security a priority, so look for him to talk about those topics and more.

I think it is always helpful to hear the top IT leader of an agency speak because then you can go to your DHS customer and say, "Hey, I heard your boss say this."

Soraya Correa, chief procurement officer, will follow, and she’ll be talking about innovation in acquisition. After all, she oversees the hugely successful EAGLE 2 contract and 1,500 procurement officials spread across nine operational contracting activities.

We also have Ronald Gallihugh, head of contracting activity at the Transportation Security Administration. He’ll be talking about metrics, methodologies and opportunities.

After a break, Mark Borkowski from Customs and Border Protection will give the lay of the land at his bureau.

And finally, Bill Wienberg, head of the contracting activity at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, makes a return visit to give a session titled "Going Beyond Business as Usual."

It should be a great event. All of the speakers should have time for some Q&A.

The program kicks off at 8:15 a.m. on April 28. But breakfast and networking start at 7:30. We wrap up around 11:30.
