Northrop to support mine detection under $8.4M contract mod

Northrop Grumman has won an $8.4 million contract modification to provide the Navy with retrofit kits for the Airborne Laser Mine Detection System.

Northrop’s Airborne Laser Mine Detection System uses pulsed laser light and streak tube receivers housed in an external equipment pod to image the entire near-surface volume potentially containing mines, and the system is capable of day or night operations, Northrop Grumman said on its website.

All work under the contract will go to support the Program Executive Office Littoral Combat Ships, the Defense Department said in a release.

Work will be performed in Santa Clarita, Calif., Melbourne, Fla., and Tucson, Ariz., and is expected to be completed by December 2018.
