Northrop Grumman to support laser mine detection under $21.M option

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has been awarded a $20.1 million option to support the Navy Program Executive Office, Littoral Combat Ship’s Airborne Laser Mine Detection Systems (ALMDS).

ALMDS is a laser-based system which uses streak tube imaging light detection and ranging to detect, classify, and localize surface and near-surface moored sea mines, the Defense Department said in a release.

Under the contract, the company will also provide depot services and software support.

Work is expected to wrap up in March 2018.
