SAIC CEO talks teaming, future opportunities

At a NVTC TITANS breakfast, SAIC CEO Tony Moraco discussed how small businesses should partner with SAIC, and what his eyes are set on going forward.

Science Applications International Corp. has long been a successful company, even after being spun off in 2013 from the original business—now Leidos—and small businesses look SAIC as a channel to success.

Speaking at the Northern Virginia Technology Council’s TITANS breakfast on Friday, SAIC CEO Tony Moraco spoke about the best way for small businesses to connect with his company.

Most of SAIC’s business is made up of indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contracts, Moraco said, and 90 percent of the company’s work is prime. “So, one opportunity is to get on a team that has that market access on an IDIQ and then you’ve got a little bit better opportunity on a task order to intersect with a mission requirement,” he said.

Teaming should be on a small business’ mind as it builds its pipeline, particularly when looking forward a year or two in the future, Moraco said.

“Get on teams that allow you to intersect with [a mission requirement of an agency] because we can promote that,” Moraco said.

That said, it helps to know where the company has its sights going forward. For SAIC, one area is the Internet of Things.

Moraco discussed the complexities that come when connectivity of that level is reached.

“We see that as a major opportunity and we’re trying to look at it from two sides: how can that capability better an outcome—whether it be for people, society, the nation—so how do you leverage that technology for a better outcome,” he said. “But in turn, that also creates a lot of threat opportunities, so how you can counter the bad uses of the same technologies.”
