L-3 bolsters sensor processing with ForceX deal
L-3 Communications furthers its repositioning with the acquisition of ForceX, a company steeped in ISR mission management and geospatial applications.
L-3 Communications has acquired ForceX Inc., a Tennessee company that specializes in ISR mission management software and geospatial applications.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the company will bring $30 million in new revenue to L-3.
The company will be rebranded as L-3 ForceX and will be folded into L-3’s integrated sensor systems sector within its Electronic Systems business.
ForceX makes a variety of products including cueing systems software, hardware and video algorithms, and wide-area sensor integration solutions and software.
The company also has proprietary processing, exploitation and dissemination solutions known as tactical PED. Processing, exploitation and dissemination is the collection and analysis of data from sensors.
ForceX also provides training materials and classroom training solutions.
Among its customers are the Air Force, the U.S. Special Operations Command, the Naval Surface Warfare Center and other DOD agencies.
ForceX had already been working with L-3 as well as with other defense companies.
“We have been strategically repositioning our portfolio by adding new capabilities that are aligned with our customers’ priorities, and we are pleased to announce this acquisition, which furthers this objective,” said Michael T. Strianese, L-3’s chairman, president and CEO.
The investment bank KippsDeSanto served as an advisor to ForceX.
