Navy plans for IT, cybersecurity support contract

The Navy seeks support the Norfolk Naval Shipyard’s Information Technology and Cyber Security Office’s overall work.

The Navy is planning for support of its global mission of the command through design, development, administration and the application of IT and telecommunication services related to the overhaul, repair, and maintenance of the Navy’s fleet.

The Navy wants a company that can independently provide support services to meet the overall operational objectives of the Information Technology and Cyber Security Office based at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY). The contract’s main objective involves information systems applications, the legacy Shipyard Local Area Network, the Shipyard’s Secure Network, Naval Foundry and Propeller Center Internal Classified Network, standalone systems, corporate support for other naval shipyards, and any other information systems the NNSY is responsible for.

This request for information is the Navy’s effort to figure out what businesses are capable of meeting the shipyard’s needs. Currently though, the Navy has not released a solicitation, although it may issue one in the near future. The Navy estimates January 2016 as the contract’s start date. The contract may be a four-year, single award contract with a firm fixed price.

Based on the draft statement of work, the Navy seeks:

• Naval Shipyard Corporate Network (NSCN) Support
• Network Security and Design Services for both wired and wireless
• Cybersecurity
• Applications and systems support
• Network systems and administrative support
• Network infrastructure installation and support
• Audio/visual installation and support
• IT Service Desk services
• Network account management services
• IT planning and administration services

NNSY in Portsmouth, Va., is one of four public shipyards, and the shipyard there is the main place for the contract’s work.

The Navy issued a sources-sought notice June 30. Responses are due by July 30.
