Microsoft wins expansion of Navy support work

Microsoft has won a $9.1 million expansion of a services contract to keep some of its older software suites up and running.
Microsoft Corp. has won a $9.1 million expansion of a Navy contract to provide support for various Microsoft products.
The contract is for Microsoft Premier Support and Microsoft Custom Support for Windows XP, Office 2003, Exchange 2003, and Server 2003. Microsoft will provide software hotfixes to keep these software suites deployed.
The expansion brings the value of the Navy contract to $30.8 million. The contract runs though June 8, 2017, if all options are exercised.
The contract was not competitively awarded and was a sole-source contract after he Navy went through its process for determining Microsoft was the only responsible source.
