DISA looking for scalable on-demand processing power

The Defense Information System Agency wants to know if there are new approaches to create a scalable processing capability known as its Uncommon Processor Capacity Services, or UPCS.

While only early in the planning phase, DISA said the best solution should include a dynamically scalable processor capability that uses an on-demand service approach for new equipment. The capability should be able to easily adjust to increasing and decreasing processor requirements. DISA also wants a solution priced on an “as used” basis for processor hardware.

For UPCS, the service provider should be able to deliver responsive, secure, and cost-effective processor infrastructure services and equipment purchases for both DISA and other DISA approved locations.

DISA may need services including installing and uninstalling hardware, such as cabinets, racks and cabling, as well as transporting and configuring the hardware. Services also may include maintenance, operating system software, and VMWare portioning software to support the processor infrastructure associated with the capacity services.

In the past, the DISA has worked on the program with Apptis Inc., Hewlett Packard Co., and ViON Corp.

DISA released the sources sought notice April 10 to determine the potential solutions and if any small businesses are capable of doing the work. Responses are due by May 15.
