ELVIS to get 5-year Air Force commitment

ELVIS is about to enter the building. No, the long-dead King of Rock-n-Roll isn't making a comeback, but the Air Force is planning to release the request for proposals for the ELVIS procurement in late February.

In its presolicitation notice, the Air Force is looking to set up a 5-year contract, dubbed Enterprise Legacy Voice and Information System or ELVIS. The contract would build a fully operational system for reliable and responsive communications and knowledge-based operations.

The system would work within the department’s telephone systems, the Secure Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPR NET), as well as the non-SIPR NET, and local area networks. It would also support network and voice over internet protocol infrastructure management, Communication Security (COMSEC), among other systems.

The contract is expected to last from 2016 to 2021. Contract operations would be based in Europe.

We're sure some folks over at the Army are wishing that they had thought of the ELVIS acronym first. After all, Elvis Presley took a break from his musical career to serve in the Army from 1958 to 1960.
