Air Force seeks asset management solution

The Air Force wants ideas on setting up an enterprise-level software management solution, as it builds an inventory of its IT software.

In its sources sought notice, the Air Force needs a solution that is scalable and can span more than 100 locations, 800,000 desktop and laptop computers using various operating systems, 35,000 servers, and multiple networks.

In fiscal 2013, Congress mandated the Air Force and other Defense Department organizations to provide a plan to identify and explain how they use selected software titles, such as Microsoft, Oracle, and Adobe. In fiscal 2014, Congress mandated the Air Force and DOD to update their plans and provide an inventory of these software solutions.

Air Force has inventoried software licenses along with hardware assets, but the current processes are highly manual and labor intensive.

There is currently not a specified term of support, but the Air Force will require a long-term Information Technology Asset Management solution.

The Air Force released the sources sought notice Nov. 7. Responses are due by Nov. 25.
