Defense Department looking into BYOD possibility for military

The Defense Department is still focused on mobility and on mobile flexibility. The department is looking into smart phone technologies that can run on the military’s SIPR network, followed by phones that allow for work and personal use on the same device, according to Federal Times.

Acting Defense Department CIO Terry Halvorson told Federal Times that the department has already begin to put out phones out based on the Blackberry Z30, but the cost has been steep, so the department has been focusing on lowering such costs.

The Defense Department is also readying a pilot program to examine how viable a bring-your-own-device would be in a military environment, Federal Times reported.
