Study finds agencies still apprehensive about cloud migration

Despite wanting to increase the use of cloud computing, 89 percent of federal IT professionals still feel apprehensive about migration, according to a recent MeriTalk report.

The report, Cloud Control: Moving to the Comfort Zone, found that of that 89 percent, 43 percent likened cloud migration to giving their child the keys to their new convertible.

The problem is not that agencies don’t understand the benefits of the cloud—55 percent of respondents answered that the cloud makes data management easier—but that many agencies face roadblocks like the challenges of remediation for data exceptions, data integration, and collaboration/interoperability, MeriTalk reported.

Fifty-four percent of respondents answered that they were primarily concerned with security.

When agencies do opt for migration, 62 percent of respondents said that they felt most comfortable turning their IT services and applications over to cloud providers. To access the report, click here.
