GD captures $311M sub design, support work

General Dynamics’ wholly owned subsidiary Electric Boat received a $311 million contract from the Navy to providing engineering and technical support for nuclear submarines, the company announced Sept. 26.

General Dynamics will design, engineer, provide material and logistics support, and research and development for active submarines and submersibles.

The company also will provide information services, planning, scheduling and technical support for submarine maintenance and modernization activities, training and facility support, and affordability and cost reduction support.

The work includes on all facets of the submarine lifecycle from forming a concept and design through construction and maintenance and modernization.

The contract has a total potential value of $1.5 billion over five years if the Navy exercises all option year.
