Contract awards flood the market as fiscal year nears its close

The year-end rush of contract awards is in full force as the final days of the fiscal year fly by.

As business came to a close on Friday, the Defense Department announced 71 contract awards and several were multiple awards.

We usually try to write individual briefs on contract awards, and we’ve done with some of the larger and more interesting wins such as the 11 winners of the $444 million Army test and evaluation contract. But with so many awards, we’re taking a short cut.

So here bulleted for you are some of the IT and professional services related awards.

• The Boeing Co.: A $499.2 million Army contract for engineering logistical support for H-47 helicopter variants.
• Exelis Systems Corp.: A $28 million contract modification for IT support for the Army’s 5th Signal Command.
• Scitor Corp.: A $25.1 million Army contract for high-altitude light detection and ranging off-nadir experimentation. I’m not sure 100 percent what this means but it helps with counter insurgency operations. The bulk of the work will be in Dijbouti, Africa.
• TVAR Solutions LLC: A $21 million Army contract for Symantec support at Fort Belvoir, Va.
• Accenture: A $12.2 million modification of an Army contract for business system support.
• Raytheon: A $11.4 million contract modification for Phased Array Tracking Radar Intercept on Target research and development.
• Unisys: A $7 million Army contract for Army Enterprise Service desk support.
• CACI: A $7 million Army contract for pre-planned product improvement and transition support for the medical logistics applications.
• International Biometric Group: A $6.9 million Army contract for R&D support for biometric and forensic technologies.
• Alion Science and Technology Corp.: A $50 million Air Force contract for advanced processes for persistent communications.
• L-3 Communications: A $16 million modification of an Air Force contract for distributed mission operations for F-16 training.
• L-3: A $6.9 million Air Force contract modification for Predator mission air crew training system.
• Raytheon: A $38.3 million contract modification for design agent and engineering services for the Navy’s Cooperative Engagement Capability.
• BAE Systems: A $9.2 million contract modification for operations and maintenance of Navy communication, electronics and computer systems.
• NAVMAR Applied Sciences Corp.: An $8.2 million contract for a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research effort on integrating data from high-altitude sonobuoys.
• 360 Patriot and AFMS Response: A $45 million task order contract for financial, program management and administrative services for the Washington Headquarters Services Acquisition Directorate.

Whew. That’s a pile of contract awards. I’m sure the volume we’ll see at the end of today and tomorrow will be close. Nothing like the rush of the end of the fiscal year.
