Health agency wants Amazon cloud access

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) plans to shift its website and all applications to a government community cloud run by Amazon Web Services.

SAMHSA is in need of a cloud infrastructure as a service provider to create an environment to develop and deploy applications and websites. Currently, the agency’s programmatic and administrative applications are fragmented across multiple platforms and providers.

Specifically, SAMHSA wants access to the Amazon Web Services GovCloud. Under a possible contract, the contractor would propose service-level agreements, associated terms and conditions, and enforcement methodology. SAMHSA also wants an AWS Management console and complete initial configuration and setup.

Based on what it gathers during the acquisition planning phase, SAMHSA may go to Federal Business Opportunities, the General Services Administration or another governmentwide acquisition contract (GWAC) to buy the services.

SAMHSA released its sources sought notice Aug. 12. Responses are due by Aug. 18.
