Agency to trade file cabinets for data warehouse

An agency in the Health and Human Services Department intends to get rid of its more than 6 million pages of paper files and go digital.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) needs support as it digitizes its files and creates a repository for all of them. The data warehouse solution would allow SAMHSA to manage transaction data in subsets where data originates from multiple external and internal sources.

Under a potential contract, a company would build a secure integrated enterprise data warehouse and enable the agency to study the best ways to integrate electronic health records and health information exchange data sets. The company would provide support for Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality reporting and analytical requirements. Among other projects, the company would also include converting papers files into an electronic form.

SAMHSA’s goal is to reduce its volume of paper before its planned move a new location by the end of 2015.

SAMHSA released a sources sought notice for market research Aug. 12. Responses are due by Aug. 18.
