Leidos wins 6-month $24M GPS follow-on contract

Leidos Inc. is expected to receive a six-month, $24 million follow-on contract from the Air Force Space Command for its global position systems expertise.

The command’s Space and Missile Systems Center Global Positioning Systems Directorate needs highly specialize support services to help it develop and implement directives and standards for GPS. The directorate also wants improved and dynamic communications, new tools and techniques for predicting issues early enough to minimize the effects on the enterprise.

The contract’s duration would be from Sept. 3 to March 7, 2015.

The command has worked with Leidos since 2007 on the specialized GPS services. Based on the six-month performance period and the Sept. 3 start date, the Air Force said it would incur substantial amount of cost and delay the project by hosting an open competition.

A sources sought notice was released July 16. Responses are due by July 31.
