Navy to go from drawings to digital

The Navy’s Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division wants to put away its drawings and replace them with multi-touch digital systems.

NAWCAD plans to use a digital hardware/software suite to model, manipulate, and document the location and orientation of aircraft, support equipment, and large logistics items. The modeling environment would dimensionally represent specific spaces on an aircraft. The suite would also include details on technical data and manuals.

The system would replace physical drawings and templates with a multi-touch digital system that is more versatile than the current methodology. A single unit will be designed, developed, delivered and installed at NAVAIR Lakehurst, in the Carrier Analysis Lab.

NAWCAD said the suite should use commercially available, large format multi-touch displays.

NAWCAD plans for a 100-percent small-business set-aside, with considerations on the lowest price technically acceptable and past performance.

NAWCAD anticipates evaluating the offers based on technical, past performance and price factors. The contract will be a fixed-price contract.

The drawing package associated with the solicitation must be obtained through this office.

NAWCAD released a pre-solicitation June 12. Responses are due June 27.
