Northrop outfits historic airfield with VoIP capability

The history of British military aviation has been future-proofed.

Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems has equipped Imperial War Museum Duxford, the U.K.’s historic airfield complex and home to a museum and airshows, with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) capability, the company announced in a news release.

The firm is Northrop Grumman’s U.K.-based air traffic management systems subsidiary.

The upgrade included refurbishing the Duxford Airfield tower, outfitting the tower with a fully ED137‑compliant IP-based voice communications system and installing the U.K. first Park Air S4 IP Controller.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.

Quoted in the news release, Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems managing director Charles Houseago said, "We have an enduring relationship with this historic site and I am proud that our company has been able to bring them into the IP-era."
