FDA researches info system modernization

The Federal Drug Administration is developing a web-based electronic system to store criminal information and conduct administrative functions.

The FDA has launched its Automated Investigative Management System (AIMS) Modernization program. The agency released a draft statement of work April 16 as it researches industry for software and services solutions to set up the system.

The FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations conducts resource-intensive investigations that expand globally and plays a role in protecting the public health from violators.

The new system should include a decision-making tool to conduct trend analyses, enhance reporting and case management, and provide for automated business processes and workflows. Working with criminal activity information, the FDA wants enhanced security protocols, and a process management workflow capability to improve field operations, reporting, and data management.

Response deadline is April 24.
