Boeing Co. wins $21.7M option to support P-8A program

Boeing Co. has won a $21.7 million option to provide support the Navy’s P-8A Poseidon program.

The P-8A Poseidon is designed to secure the Navy’s future in long-range maritime patrol capability, while transforming how the Navy’s maritime patrol and reconnaissance force will man, train, operate and deploy, according to the Naval Air Systems Command website.

The P-8A will provide more combat capability from a smaller force and less infrastructure while focusing on worldwide responsiveness and interoperability with traditional manned forces and evolving unmanned sensors, the Navy said.

Under the option, Boeing will provide instructional system design courseware and training support.

Work will be performed in St. Louis, Mo., and is expected to be completed in December 2016.

Funding in the full amount of the option is obligated at the time of the award.
