Boeing wins $325M missile defense contract

Boeing has won a sole-sourced, $325 million contract to support the Missile Defense Agency’s Ballistic Missile Defense System, or BMDS.

The BMDS system is designed to counter ballistic missiles of all ranges before they reach their targets. The system has network sensors as well as ground-based and sea-based radars for target detection and tracking. It also has a command, control, battle management and communications network providing operational commanders with the needed links between the sensors and interceptor missiles, according to the Missile Defense Agency website.

Under the contract, Boeing will perform diverse and highly complex systems engineering and integration requirements, the Defense Department said.

Work will be performed in Huntsville, Ala., and is expected to be completed by Nov. 14, 2018.
