Pentagon moves over 10,000 email accounts to DISA-run cloud

The Pentagon has moved more than 10,000 email accounts to a cloud-based Defense Department Enterprise Email service run by DISA, according to NextGov.

Those 10,000 e-mails are in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and are joined by another 2,000 from the U.S. Southern Command. The service consolidates traditional segmented email systems into a singular system, NextGov reported.

The cloud-based system eliminates costs associated with redundant email infrastructures, which in turn frees up agency resources to focus on other mission critical functions within their organizations, NextGov quoted DISA as saying.
