FedCentric Technologies wins $16.7M contract to support USPS supercomputers

FedCentric Technologies has won a five-year, $16.7 million contract to expand the U.S. Postal Service’s high-density supercomputing capabilities to improve efficiency and competitiveness, according to FCW.

The supercomputer that the USPS currently uses operates with 16 terabytes of in-memory computing that is housed within Eagan IT and Accounting Service Center in Eagan, Minn., and is capable of scanning 528 million pieces of mail per day, FCW reported.

Under the contract, FedCentric Technologies will build four more supercomputing systems, which will improve efficiencies for the agency. Currently, USPS has an operating budget close to $60 billion, and since the agency lost $16 billion last year, and expects to lose $6 billion this year, any extra efficiency is important, FCW reported.
