Accenture, IBM to battle for Navy data analytics work

Accenture and IBM will be squaring off against each other to help the Naval Supply Systems Command rethink its business processes and data operations.

Each company has won a contract, and will compete against each other for task orders under the command’s Weapon Systems Support contract.

Accenture’s contract has a $53.7 million ceiling, while IBM’s ceiling is $49.4 million

The Navy wants professional, technical and management support services in areas such as business process management, reengineering and optimization; data governance, operations and analysis; and business intelligence, according to the solicitation.

“IBM is eager to partner with the Navy in their efforts to obtain deeper insights from their data," said Anne Altman, general manager of IBM’s U.S. federal business.

The work will support the command’s Business Systems Center in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

The contracts to IBM and Accenture have a one-year base and three one-year options.

In the original synopsis, the Navy said it would make at least one small business award, but so far, no other contracts have been awarded.
