Navy, Marine Corps to be all virtual by 2017
The Navy and the Marine Corp have been instructed by a recent Navy CIO memo to run their operating systems in a virtual server environment by 2017.
By 2017, the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps must run their operating systems in a virtual server environment, allowing multiple operating systems and applications to run on a single server, Nextgov reported.
The services were instructed by a memo released July 31 by Navy Department CIO Terry Halvorsen.
Both of the services have 120 days to plan a virtualization of all servers and server-based systems and applications by the end of fiscal 2017, according to Nextgov.
